If that all makes sense and someone can give some advice, I'd appreciate it. As for the task itself, I want to generate a global SolutionInfo.cs file (this task is working) and automatically inject that file into every project build (this is the task I have yet to accomplish), without having to manually link the file in each project from IDE or manually edit each csproj file to add a custom BuildBefore or similar task. Also, I don't particularly care if this task executes from the IDE or not - I really just care if it executes from the continuous build server - so it doesn't have to exist within the solution in any way.

I'd rather avoid this, as there are many csproj files and I'd prefer if it were all automatic. The solution is being built by a continuous integration system (CCNet) which executes msbuild on a build file that contains the following target (with names slightly modified): So far, it seems like the only way to get a "BeforeBuild" (or something similar) step to execute for every child project is to modify each csproj file and add it manually (or at least add an import line to import the custom task into each project). What I'd like to be able to do is inject a "BeforeBuild" task into every project build.

Basically, I have an entire existing solution with several csproj files. csproj files during build I've been doing lots of research into this problem, and I get the feeling I won't be able to do what I'd like.
